Broader Objectives
HLF works towards attainment of the following objectives -
- To promote and further the cause of Indian literature and national integration.
- To enable poets and writers - both national and international - to interact and share their work, and to discuss
important issues relating to literature and culture.
- To encourage and bring into focus translation of works of regional literatures of India. No other Literary Festival
in India brings as much focus on regional writers as does HLF.
- To offer an opportunity for literature lovers to listen to and interact with noted writers of our time.
Organisers
HLF is organized by Muse India, the highly acclaimed Hyderabad-based literary eJournal, and the Department of Tourism of Government of AP, in partnership with Osmania University, Central University of Hyderabad, and several cultural organizations of the city.
Hyderabad Literary Festival 2012 - Highlights
HLF2012 will be conducted over 3 days on Jan 16-18, 2012 at the impressive Taramati Baradari cultural complex (in the picture above) in historic Golkonda area. A large number of eminent writers of national and international standing, and several cultural personalities drawn from various creative arts like films, stage, dance and music will be participating in the event. Cultural events will sparkle the evenings.
A Festival for all - Literature lovers, College Students and School children
The programme offers depth and variety to appeal to different literary tastes.
Workshop in Creative Writing will be conducted for University and College students.
Special programmes for School children, including Book Readings, will aim at generating literary interests in them.
With Free Admission, HLF will be open for all to enable everyone to enjoy the rare literary fare.
Special sessions in Telugu and Urdu-Hindi literatures
Some of the best writers in Telugu, Urdu and Hindi based in Hyderabad will be featured in sessions dedicated to these languages. There will be an actual performance of Ashthavadhanam, a unique and amazing genre of Telugu literature that demands exceptional scholarship, skills in composing poetry, memory power and presence of mind. There will be an Urdu Mushaira session, so popular among the people of Hyderabad.
Germany as the 'Featured Nation' at HLF-2012
Germany will be the 'Featured Nation' at Hyderabad Literary Festival 2012 with participation of few senior German writers and a Music band. Muse India will also carry a special feature on Contemporary German Literature in its Jan-Feb 2012 Issue to coincide with the festival.
Muse India National Literary Awards
Muse India has instituted 2 awards to be given each year at HLF - The Young Writer Award and The Translation Award.
For the 2011 awards, Muse India has received an overwhelming response with 150 entries. National level Juries have nominated the following writers/books (alphabetical order) for the Awards that will be announced at HLF2012 -
